Lady Warriors seek seventh straight win vs. Cool Smashers
Pocari Sweat look to stretch its winning streak to seven.
League-leading Pocari Sweat looks to extend its winning streak to seven and strengthen its bid for an outright semifinals berth in a showdown with crowd-favorite Creamline Saturday in the inaugural Premier Volleyball League Reinforced Conference at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
The Lady Warriors are on a roll after dropping their first two matches, winning six straight games to keep a tight hold of the solo top spot.
But Pocari Sweat is sure to face a difficult challenge this time against the Cool Smashers in their scheduled 6:00 p.m. battle especially without its top hitter Myla Pablo. The match will air live on ABS-CBN S+A Channel 23, ABS-CBN S+A HD Channel 166 and via livestream.
Pablo aggravated her back spasm last Thursday during the second set of the Lady Warriors’ 18-25, 21-25, 26-24, 27-25, 15-13, win over BaliPure. The former National University standout is expected to sit out the remainder of the preliminary round to recuperate.
Bosnian import Edina Selimovic and American reinforcement Michelle Strizak will lead Pocari Sweat’s bid to make a repeat win against Creamline with locals Jeanette Panaga, Elaine Kasilag and Cai Nepomuceno acting as support.
The Cool Smashers are at fifth spot with a 2-4 card and are coming off a four-set loss to BaliPure.
Creamline will field its American import Laura Schaudt and Kuttika Kaewpin of Thailand for the first time and are expected to give the much-needed support for local superstar Alyssa Valdez.
Meanwhile, Cignal and Philippine Air Force battle in the men’s division at 10:00 a.m.
