Marami kaming kailangang ayusin -- Valdez
We can't make excuses also so we have to accept the fact that we lost today, recover tomorrow, and try to do well sa next game -- Alyssa Valdez

Creamline superstar Alyssa Valdez doesn’t want to dwell on the Cool Smashers' sorry five-set loss to the Power Smashers that booted them out of contention for an outright semifinals berth in the Premier Volleyball League Reinforced Conference.

The Cool Smashers absorbed a 25-17, 22-25, 18-25, 25-18, 10-15, defeat Sunday inside the sweltering PhilSports Arena in Pasig City.

“As the season goes, marami pa kaming kailangan ayusin as a team,” said Valdez, who finished with 17 points but ended the game with her attack hitting right smack into the net.

“We can't make excuses also so we have to accept the fact that we lost today, recover tomorrow, and try to do well sa next game,” Valdez added.

The Cool Smashers dropped to a 3-5 win-loss record at fifth spot.

The loss pulled Creamline down in the dangerous round robin quarterfinals for the teams that will end the preliminary round in third to sixth spots where the last two semis berths are at stake.

Imports Kuttika Kaewpin and Laura Schaudt scored 16 markers each to help Valdez but got little assistance from the rest of the locals.

The Cool Smashers and the Power Smashers played their tight contest in a venue with an air-conditioning system undergoing repairs.

“One of the main thing siguro today was the weather, the condition here inside 'di sila (imports) sanay,” said Valdez. “But it's a volleyball game. Kailangan talaga namin maglaro ng maayos as much as possible.”

“I think they're really excited to play with the team. They're doing they're best and performing really well. They're not only contributing sa points but also sa defense,” she added. “So I hope di 'rin sila mapagod kasi the schedule is going to be tight for our team. We have to just recover and accept all the mistakes na nagawa para mabawi namin.”

Creamline will wrap up their prelims campaign with a match against BaliPure on Tuesday and Perlas on Thursday before marching to the quarterfinals on Saturday.

“It's more of a confidence booster for the team kasi we're a combination of young and veteran players and may imports,” said Valdez. “We have to get confidence and we really have to fight and give all our heart into every game. We have to establish that in our next two games and hopefully madala namin sa next round.”
