IEM fuels flickering semis bid, sweeps listless Cafe Lupe

Instituto Estetico Manila kept its semifinals hopes alive by showing winless Café Lupe the exit door with an emphatic, 25-14, 25-17, 25-21, victory Tuesday in the men’s division of the inaugural Premier Volleyball League at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
The Phoenix Volley Master bounced back from a loss almost two weeks ago to end the single round robin eliminations with a 2-3 win-loss record.
Former Far Eastern University standout Greg Dolor poured 22 points. The national pool member connected with 18 attacks, two aces and a pair of kill blocks for IEM.
Ferdian Guanzon and Joeward Fresnede combined for 17 markers for the Phoenix Volley Masters, who will have to pray that they will end up with a tie at fourth to fifth spots to force a playoff on June 1.
The top four teams at the end of the elims will advance in the best-of-three semifinals with the no. 1 taking on the no. 4 seed while nos. 2 and 3 squads face off in the other Final Four pairing.
The Sunrisers are winless after four outings and will close the elims on Thursday against league-leading Air Force (3-1).
Perpetual Help ace Manuel Doliente finished with eight points to lead Café Lupe.
