The Power Smashers face off with slumping Philippine Air Force as they bid to keep their outright semifinals berth hopes alive.
The Power Smashers march into battle Tuesday against skidding Philippine Air Force looking to improve their chances of securing one of the two outright semifinals berth in the inaugural Premier Volleyball League Reinforced Conference at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
Behind the efforts of Thai imports Kannika Tipachot and Hyapa Amporn, the Power Smashers fanned its automatic semis bid with a huge win over Creamline Sunday as they evened their record to 4-4.
The Power Smashers try to move closer to accomplishing their goal in their 4:00 p.m. showdown that will air via livestream.
Amporn and Tipachot scored 17 points each to help the Power Smashers arrest a two-game slide in their 17-25, 25-22, 25-18, 18-25, 15-10, victory over the Cool Smashers last Sunday.
Aside from the duo, the Power Smashers will also bank on locals Jovielyn Prado, Dimdim Pacres and Andrea Marzan to complete a preliminary round sweep of the nosediving Jet Spikers.
Air Force is down with six straight losses to remain at the cellar with a 1-7 slate.
The Jet Spikers absorbed a 17-25, 12-25, 17-25, defeat at the hands of BaliPure last Saturday. Air Force is already out of contention for an outright semis berth but is looking to snap its slump and build momentum for the quarterfinals where the last two semis berths are at stake.
Meanwhile, Café Lupe (0-3) and Instituto Estetico Manila (1-3) square off at 1:00 p.m. in the men’s division.
