Kannika Tipachot scored 19 points in the Power Smashers' straight sets demolition of BaliPure.
Thai import Kannika Tipachot dropped 19 points as the Power Smashers kept their outright semifinals berth hopes alive in a quick workout against BaliPure, 25-20, 25-23, 25-19, Thursday in the inaugural Premier Volleyball League Reinforced Conference at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
The Power Smashers closed their preliminary round campaign with a 6-4 win-loss slate tied with Pocari Sweat at second to third spots.
Tipachot scored all but one of her points from attacks while compatriot Hyapa Amporn and local ace Jovielyn Prado had 10 markers each for the Power Smashers, who can still make clinch an outright best-of-three semis spot if Perlas loses to Creamline in their ongoing match as of press time.
“In-explain ko sa mga players na lalo na doon sa local na ito ang sitwasyon natin ngayon na kung gusto natin pumasok kailangan magtrabaho tayo,” said Power Smashers coach Nes Pamilar. “So ‘yung credit nga mas (binigay) ko sa mga local para pagpursigihan nila na manalo kami ng straight sets.”
If Perlas wins the match, the Power Smashers, Pocari Sweat, Creamline and Philippine Air Force will battle in a round robin quarterfinals where the last two semis berths are at stake.
The Power Smashers sealed the win in just 79 minutes and received little resistance against the semis-bound Water Defenders.
BaliPure closed the prelims with a 7-3 slate and occupied the no. 1 seed in the semis.
Thai import Jaroensri Bualee had 18 points while American import Jennifer Keddy scored eight for the Water Defenders.
