Lady Warriors near semis berth, defeat Cool Smashers in five
Pocari Sweat inched closer to a best-of-three semifinals seat.

Pocari Sweat closed in on a semifinals spot after surviving a tough battle against Creamline, 25-23, 25-21, 21-25, 18-25, 15-11 Tuesday in the inaugural Premier Volleyball League Reinforced Conference at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.

The Lady Warriors captured their second straight win in as many games in the round robin quarterfinals.

American import Michelle Strizak and Myla Pablo powered Pocari Sweat, which is now a win away from joining top seed BaliPure and the Power Smashers in the best-of-three semis series starting Saturday.

The Lady Warriors will close the quarterfinals on Thursday against Perlas.

Strizak blasted all but one of her 30 points from kills while Pablo finished with 12 markers for the Lady Warriors. Desiree Dadang and Cai Nepomuceno scored 11 points each and tallied four kill blocks apiece in the squad's total of 10.

“’Yun naman ang sabi namin sa mga players namin, na we need to take it one game at a time. Since nanalo kami ng first game, we should bring the momentum going to the second game,” said Pocari Sweat coach Rommel Abella, whose wards surived a five-set quarters opener against Philippine Air Force. “And ngayon, nanalo kami ng second game, bring the momentum again to the third game on Thursday which is against Perlas.”

Pocari Sweat built a 12-8 gap but the Cool Smashers behind Alyssa Valdez and imports Kuttika Kaewpin of Thailand and American Lindsay Schaudt tried to power Creamline back with a 3-1 spurt to close in, 13-11.

After Pablo pushed the Lady Warriors to match point, a miscue from Kaewpin and Jema Galanza on the rebound after Valdez’s attack bounced off the defensive wall of Pocari Sweat sealed the match.

The Cool Smashers slid to a 1-1 card.

Valdez and Kaewpin scored 19 points each while Schaudt got 14 for Creamline, which need to win its last assignment on Thursday against Air Force.
