Creamline and Philippine Air Force collide in a struggle for survival.
Creamline looks to bounce back from a tough loss and boost its bid for a semifinals berth in a showdown with a desperate Philippine Air Force side Thursday in the inaugural Premier Volleyball League Reinforced Conference at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
Opening serve of the last playdate of the round robin quarterfinals is at 4:00 p.m. and will air via livestream. The match will also air on a delayed basis starting 6:00 p.m. on ABS-CBN S+A Channel 23 and ABS-CBN S+A HD Channel 166
The Cool Smashers are coming off a 23-25, 21-25, 25-21, 25-18, 11-15 defeat at the hands of Pocari Sweat last Tuesday that put the Alyssa Valdez-led team in a precarious position in the race for the last two best-of-three semis berths to join early qualifiers BaliPure and the Power Smashers.
Creamline is tied with Perlas with identical 1-1 slates behind the Lady Warriors (2-0).
Aside from Valdez, Thai import Kuttika Kaewpin and American Laura Schaudt, the Cool Smashers must get more contributions from other locals like Jema Galanza, Pau Soriano and veteran Ivy Remulla to avoid getting the boot.
A convincing win by Creamline coupled by a Perlas upset over Pocari Sweat will force a three-way tie at 2-1 slate. In this scenario, the teams with the highest tiebreak according to FIVB rule will clinch the semis tickets.
The Jet Spikers, meanwhile, are winless in two quarters outings including a painful 26-24, 15-25, 28-26, 20-25, 8-15, loss to the Spikers last Tuesday.
But Air Force can still make it to the semis if they hurdle Creamline and the Lady Warriors prevail over Perlas to force a three-way logjam at 1-2 card.
In this scenario, the team with the highest tiebreak will clinch the no. 4 spot in the semis for the right to take on BaliPure.
In men’s play, Philippine Army and Instituto Estetico Manila battle for the last semis slot in their 1:00 p.m. tussle.
