In an instant ‘di natin malalaman kung sino mananalo sa match but syempre it’s really frustrating, makuha mo first set, muntik na second set tapos sa third set bumaba na energy and confidence (namin) as a team -- Alyssa Valdez
Local superstar Alyssa Valdez and Creamline hope to regroup from a disappointing outing in the Premier Volleyball League Reinforced Conference best-of-three semifinals opener against BaliPure and do a better job on Tuesday to equalize.
Valdez and Thai import Kuttika Kaewpin had hellish outings in the Cool Smashers’ 25-22, 23-25, 14-25, 21-25, loss Saturday in Game 1 at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
The Water Defenders reasserted their mastery over Creamline in a match that saw BaliPure keep Valdez and Kaepwin in check with solid net defense.
Kaewpin had 16 points while Valdez was shackled to only 12 markers on a 10-of-49 attacking clip.
“Well hindi lang naman sa skills (lamang) ‘yung BaliPure. Very veteran naman ng mga kasama nila, sina Jeng (Bualee), Grethcel (Soltones) matagal ng naglalaro sa commercial leagues and international competitions,” said Valdez.
“Di mo na maaalis experience nila and I think they really worked as a team today and they really did prepare for the semifinals,” she added.
Creamline was obviously weary after a long and hard journey to clinch a semis seat. The Cool Smashers had a pair of five-setters before closing the round robin quarterfinals in a sweep of Philippine Air Force.
The Cool Smashers started had before fizzling out in the end.
“Breaks of the game din talaga di mo masasabi lalo na ngayon na sabi ko nga very tough ang mga teams ngayon,” Valdez said. “In an instant ‘di natin malalaman kung sino mananalo sa match but syempre it’s really frustrating, makuha mo first set, muntik na second set tapos sa third set bumaba na energy and confidence (namin) as a team.”
Creamline has two days to prepare for the pivotal Game 2. They hope to extend the series to a decider on Thursday.
“We’re really lucky and grab ang opportunity na ito to train harder,” she said. “May two days kami to prepare for Tuesday’s game.”
