Cignal and Sta. Elena battle for the last time for a championship berth.
Hoping to take advantage of the momentum of their series-tying win, Cignal looks to finish off the Sta. Elena Wrecking Balls Thursday for the right to advance to the Finals of the Premier Volleyball League Reinforced Conference men’s division at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City.
The HD Spikers face off with the Wrecking Balls one last time in the do-or-die Game 3 of the semifinals series at 1:00 p.m. for a best-of-three championship berth. The match will air via livestream.
Cignal pummeled Sta. Elena into submission with an emphatic, 25-17, 25-19, 25-22, win to tie the series last Tuesday.
“We just have to start right and end strong. Hopefully madala namin ang momentum sa deciding game,” said HD Spikers coach Oliver Almadro, whose squad rebounded from a shocking four-set upset to start the series. “Huwag lang mawala ang trust namin, yung right character and right attitude.”
Lorenzo Capate, skipper Ysay Marasigan, Mark Alfafara and Vince Mangulabnan will once again lead Cignal into battle against Sta. Elena’s stars Mark Enciso, Berlin Paglinawan, Edward Camposano and Ace Mandani.
The winner of the match will face the survivor between top seed Philippine Air Force and Philippine Army, which will tangle at 10:00 a.m.
Behind the trio of Fauzi Ismail, Bryan Bagunas and Edwin Tolentino, the Jet Spikers stormed past the Troopers, 25-17, 25-18, 25-20, in Game 2 to force a decider.
Lemuel Arbasto, Benjaylo Labide and Romnick Rico must step up for Army to make a repeat of its four-set win in the series opener.
The Finals series starts Saturday. The semis losers will play in a best-of-three battle for third.
