Creamline sweeps the Power Smashers in their best-of-three battle for third opener.
Creamline vented its ire on the hapless Power Smashers in an emphatic 25-20, 25-18, 25-15, straight sets whipping Saturday in Game 1 of the inaugural Premier Volleyball League Reinforced Conference best-of-three battle for third series at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City.
After falling short in their Finals berth bid, the Cool Smashers immediately buckled down to business with Thai import Kuttika Kaewpin, American reinforcement Laura Schaudt and local superstar Alyssa Valdez unleashing their scoring might to easily submit the Power Smashers.
Valdez hammered 17 kills for a 21-point performance while adding 12 digs for Creamline. Kaewpin had 13 markers while Schaudt had 11 for the Cool Smashers.
"I guess ang key rito ay inspired ang mga imports namin to play. Alam naman natin na ilang araw na lang they are going home kaya inspired sila tro play," said Creamline assistant coach Oliver Almadro.
"Sabi ko nga kay Laura, 'Where are young getting that energy now? Where are you getting that defense and serve?' Sabi niya 'I don't know, maybe because of what I ate a while ago?' Sabi ko siguro Creamline ice cream," Almadro added. "'Yun lang they are playing inspired, they are playing happy today. Mataas ang intensity ang lahat. Ganoon naman talaga if its team effort mahirap talunin ang Creamline."
Creamline can close the series on Tuesday. Game 3, if necessary, is on Thursday.
In case, the Finals series between BaliPure and Pocari Sweat ends in two games and the battle for third gets tied at 1-1, the bronze medal winner will be decided via FIVB tiebreak.
Thai reinforcement Kannika Tipachot was the only Power Smashers player in double figures with 14 points while Dimdim Pacres and Jovielyn Prado combined for only 15 markers.
