Philippine Air Force begins its best-of-three Finals series against archrival Cignal on Saturday.
Philippine Air Force and Cignal battle for pride and glory as the two proud clubs collide in the opener of their best-of-three Premier Volleyball League Reinforced Conference men’s division Finals series Saturday at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City.
Opening serve is at 1:00 p.m. and will air via livestream.
The Jet Spikers and HD Spikers set up a fourth straight championship meeting since their Finals trilogy in the Spikers’ Turf from 2015 to 2016.
Air Force secured the first championship berth after edging out Philippine Army, 24-26, 21-25, 25-20, 25-21, 15-9, Thursday in Game 3 of their best-of-three semifinals showdown. Cignal followed suit with a 27-25, 24-26, 25-16, 26-24, victory over Sta. Elena also in a series decider.
Both teams went behind, 0-1, in their respective semis series before winning two straight for another title showdown.
The Jet Spikers hold a 2-1 Finals head-to-head against their bitter rival and are looking to take advantage of their psychological edge over the HD Spikers after sweeping Cignal, 30-28, 25-19, 25-21, in their preliminary round meeting.
Air Force will bank on National University standouts Bryan Bagunas, Fauzi Ismail and Kim Malabunga and on veterans Ranran Abdilla and setter Jessie Lopez to make a repeat over the HD Spikers.
But Cignal won’t be an easy picking as it parades an equally dangerous roster led by Peter Torres, Ysay Marasigan, Lorenzo Capate, Edmar Bonono, Mark Alfafara and playmaker Vince Mangulabnan.
Game 2 is on Tuesday and if necessary, Game 3 is on Thursday.
Meanwhile, Army and Sta. Elena begin their best-of-three battle for third at 10:00 a.m.
