Cool Smashers out to claim third place trophy
Alyssa Valdez will try to give Creamline a third place finish in the franchise's club volleyball league debut.

Creamline shoots for the consolation trophy in Game 2 of the inaugural Premier Volleyball League Reinforced Conference best-of-three battle for third place series Tuesday against the Power Smashers at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City.

The Alyssa Valdez-led Cool Smashers look to end their debut with a podium finish when they troop back inside the court at 4:00 p.m. The match will air live on ABS-CBN S+A Channel 23, ABS-CBN S+A HD Channel 166 and via livestream.

“Ang usapan nga ng team we have to end this conference with a win,” said Creamline assistant coach Oliver Almadro.

Valdez, a three-time club league Most Valuable Player, dropped 21 points last Saturday as she led the Cool Smashers to a walk in the park, 25-20, 25-18, 25-15, in over the Power Smashers in the series opener.

Creamline will again bank on the former Ateneo de Manila star, who led the Lady Eagles to two UAAP titles, together with Thai import Kuttika Kaewpin, American hitter Laura Schaudt and locals Pau Soriano and Jema Galanza.

The Power Smashers will need to get more contributions from their homegrown talents Jovielyn Prado, Regine Arocha, Dimdim Pacres and Andrea Marzan to help the Thai duo of Kannika Tipachot and Hyapa Amporn, who themselves had a forgettable outing with a combined 19 points only.

In case the Finals series between Pocari Sweat and BaliPure ends in two games and the battle for third is tied, the bronze medal winner will be determined via FIVB tiebreaker.
