BALIPURE: Hungrier for glory

Ipapakita pa namin kung hanggang saan talaga kami despite the fact na puro mga bata ito, mga college students pa lang -- BaliPure coach Roger Gorayeb
Hungrier and more aggressive.
This will be the character of BaliPure when the Water Defenders set sail for another campaign in the Premier Volleyball League starting July 1.
Fresh from a runner-up finish behind powerhouse Pocari Sweat in the Reinforced Conference, BaliPure is looking to win it all this time in the Open Conference.
“Mas magiging aggressive ang mga bata,” said Water Defenders head coach Roger Gorayeb.
BaliPure will parade an intact lineup bannered by last tournament’s 2nd Best Outside Spiker Grethcel Soltones and Best Setter winner Jasmine Nabor with hitters Risa Sato, Jerrili Malabanan and Aiko Urdas back for another tour of duty.
The multi-titled mentor is confident that his team’s chemistry will again bring the club to greater heights.
“Oo naman kasi lumabas na ang potential nila eh,” he said.
The squad had a hot start in the import-laden conference despite playing with an all-local lineup because of the delayed International Transfer Certificates of their guest players Jeng Bualee of Thailand and American Jennifer Keddy. Gorayeb hopes his wards will show the same fire.
“Tingnan natin kasi if you base it sa performance namin noong start ng last conference na all-Filipino lang, pero wala kaming talo nun, 4-0 kami nun,” added Gorayeb. “Sana medyo lumaban pa lalo.”
The Water Defenders came a win away from completing an upset against the Lady Warriors in the Finals series that they forced to a winner-take-all Game 3. Gorayeb admitted that after their championship stint, the management’s expectations are higher this conference.
“Mas mataas na ang expectations nila sa amin ngayon pero kami naman hindi namin siya tini-take ‘yun na pressure or what eh,” he said. “Gagawin namin siyang motivation kasi ipinakita namin ang potensyal namin.”
With a short format of a single round robin elimination round where the top four teams will advance in the semifinals, the tactician knows the importance of a good start in their bid to deliver the clubs first title.
“Dapat makapuhunan kami kaagad para siguradong makapasok kami kaagad sa susunod na round,” he said.
With eight teams vying for crown and glory, BaliPure is banking on the team’s youth, aggressiveness and determination to ascend to the throne.
“Ipapakita pa namin kung hanggang saan talaga kami despite the fact na puro mga bata ito, mga college students pa lang,” said Gorayeb. “Sana ‘yung enthusiasm nila and ‘yung determination nila nandoon pa rin.”
