Yung exposure talaga (ang habol namin). Kasi itong PVL marami kang makakalaro na malalakas na players at teams talaga -- UP open spiker Isa Molde
The University of the Philippines aims to learn and get the much-needed exposure when the rebuilding Lady Maroons test their mettle against veteran club teams in the inaugural Premier Volleyball League Open Conference.
Looking to use the eight-club field tournament as an early build-up for their campaign in the UAAP next year, the Lady Maroons will parade a very young lineup after the departure of veterans Kathy Bersola, Nicole Tiamzon and libero Pia Gaiser.
Head coach Jerry Yee, who handled Perlas in the Reinforced Conference, will get a chance to gauge his team’s condition and test his new rotation.
Leading the State University squad are incoming third year players Diana Carlos and Isa Molde while Justine Dorog will return as an open hitter after being converted as a libero last UAAP season. Ayel Estranero, the Lady Maroons’ setter in the last UAAP tournament, will return as a libero.
Also seeing action for UP are Mae Basarte, Marist Layug, Jessma Ramos, Alesha Gannaban, Rose Cailing, Vina Alinas and Caryl Sandoval while late inclusions in the roster are Roselyn Rosier, Cynthia Escutin and Iola Mia Pablo.
With changes in position and new players coming in, the tournament will be a test of character for the squad.
“’Yung exposure talaga (ang habol namin),” said Molde. “Kasi itong PVL marami kang makakalaro na malalakas na players at teams talaga.”
“Siguro matuto rin kami dito sa conference at sa susunod na (Collegiate) conference kung makakasali kami,” she added. “Madadala namin ang mga natutunan namin sa PVL doon sa UAAP.”
Molde, the UAAP Season 78 Rookie of the Year, is also looking forward to going up against her former teammates Tiamzon and Bersola, who are playing for the BPI Banko-Perlas Spikers.
“Excited kaming makalaban sila kasi simula ng matapos ang UAAP nag-Perlas na kaagad sila and hindi na namin sila nakakasama,” she said.” Gusto namin silang makalaban kasi seniors namin sila dati and gusto namin matuto sa mga mali namin.”
The Lady Maroons will open their campaign against powerhouse Pocari Sweat on Sunday.
