Nakakainis, nakakagigil -- Valdez on playing with Morado
Itís really good to play with someone you really know inside and outside of the court -- Creamline ace spiker Alyssa Valdez

Superstar Alyssa Valdez and Jia Morado relived the successful tandem that brought them glory during their Ateneo de Manila days.

The duo, which led the Lady Eagles to back-to-back UAAP titles from 2014 and 2015, wowed the fans inside the FilOil Flying V Centre Saturday with Morado dishing out beautiful sets that Valdez converted into thunderous attacks.

The reunion of Valdez and Morado highlighted Creamline’s 25-17, 18-25, 25-15, 25-22, opening day win in the Premier Volleyball League Open Conference against a feisty Adamson side.

Valdez gave a funny description in her first major tournament partnership with Morado in two years since they represented the country in the 2016 ASEAN University Games where Ateneo de Manila won bronze a few months after the Lady Eagles lost the UAAP crown to archrival De La Salle.

“Nakakainis, nakakagigil ganoon,” said Valdez, who graduated from Ateneo in 2016 a year before Morado bid goodbye to the Lady Eagles. “It’s really good to play with someone you really know inside and outside of the court.”

Morado, who decided to forego her last playing year after Ateneo bowed to DLSU in the UAAP Season 79 Finals series, signed with Creamline just a few weeks ago in the Cool Smashers’ recruitment coup.

“It feels great to play. It’s always fun naman to play, win or lose,” said Morado. “It’s a great experience playing with new players naman this time.”

The playmaker dished out 36 excellent sets on top of her six points including two from the service line for the Cool Smahers.

Valdez had 18 points including 16 from attacks with most coming from Morado’s beautiful set ups.

“Thinker kasi si Jia. Lagi siyang nag-iisip kahit anong mangyari. Sobrang ganda ng rotation ng bola kasi marami rin siyang nase-setan and nabibigyan ng bola,” she said.

But Valdez admitted that she and most of the Cool Smashers’ spikers were a little too excited to convert each of Morado’s sets.

“Definitely ako as her teammate nakakagigil din kasi in a way sobrang makikita mo talaga na tag-iisang blocker o walang blocker ‘yung ibibigay sa’yo ni Jia,” said Valdez. “Its really a good feeling for the spikers but we have to, lalo na ako, na we have to compose ourselves sa mga ganoong situation.”

Valdez and Morado will next face the dangerous BaliPure pair of Grethcel Soltones and playmaker Jasmine Nabor on Wednesday in a rematch of the Reinforced Conference semifinal.
