Spikers, Jet Spikers clash in PVL Open Conference start
Banko-Perlas will cash in on its veterans to shoot down Air Force.

Banko-Perlas and Philippine Air Force look to open their campaign in the Premier Volleyball League Open Conference on a high note Saturday at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.

Opening serve is at 6:30 p.m. and will air live on ABS-CBN S+A Channel 23, ABS-CBN S+A HD Channel 166 and via livestream.

Both squads, which finished at the bottom of the Reinforced Conference, will field an almost intact core making the contest an equal match between two teams composed of veteran players.

Leading the Jet Spikers are seasoned hitters Joy Cases, Jocemer Tapic, May Ann Pantino and setter Wendy Semana.

Air Force will get an added arsenal with the return of middle Dell Palomata and Judy Ann Caballejo after skipping the import-flavored tournament because of their military training.

The Spikers, meanwhile, will play sans former team captain Dzi Gervacio, who is in the US to study.

Still, Banko-Perlas is considered to be one of the top title contenders because of its grizzled veterans.

Leading the team’s charge are Amy Ahomiro, Kathy Bersola, Nicole Tiamzon, Suzanne Roces, Amanda Villanueva and setter Jem Ferrer.
