Jet Spikers, Wrecking Balls battle for second straight win
Sta. Elena faces a litmus test against Philippine Air Force.

Opening day winners Philippine Air Force and Sta. Elena square off to keep a hold of the lead in the inaugural Premier Volleyball League Open Conference men’s division Wednesday at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.

The 1:00 p.m. match will air via livestream after the Mega Builders and Café Lupe tussle at 10:00 a.m.

The Jet Spikers and Wrecking Balls hurdled their tournament debut rivals to join other early winners Volley Volts and Reinforced Conference champion Cignal.

Air Force defeated newcomer Gamboa Coffee Mix, 25-19, 25-10, 28-26, last Saturday behind Nino Jeruz and Edwin Tolentino while Sta. Elena turned back Instituto Estetico Manila, 25-16, 25-20, 25-21, Sunday.

Backed by former UAAP champion National University, Mega Builders pulled off an upset against the seasoned Philippine Army Troopers, 25-22, 19-25, 23-25, 25-22, 20-18, last Saturday.

Despite playing sans top hitters Bryan Bagunas and Fauzi Ismail, who skipped the match to play in a beach volleyball tournament, the Volley Volts outlasted the Troopers with skipper Fracis Saura and Madzlan Gampong leading the way with 24 and 21 points, respectively.

The Sunrisers suffered a 19-25, 18-25, 13-25 setback at the hands of the HD Spikers last Sunday.
