Philippine Air Force's Rudolfo Labrador smashes an attack over the defense of Israel Encina of Sta. Elena.
Top hitter Bryan Bagunas debuted with a bang as the national team standout powered the Mega Builders to an easy 25-17, 25-20, 25-13, demolition of hapless Café Lupe Wednesday in the inaugural Premier Volleyball League Open Conference men’s division at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
Absent in their first outing to play in a beach volleyball tournament, Bagunas led the National University-backed Volley Volts to their second straight win for a hold of the early lead.
Bagunas delivered a game-high 16 points he collected from a dozen kills, three aces and a kill block. Skipper Francis Saura and Kim Malabunga added nine markers each for Mega Builders, who will take on co-newcomer Gamboa Coffee Mix on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Philippine Air Force took a share of the lead after a 23-25, 25-20, 25-19, 21-25, 15-10 escape against the Sta. Elena Wrecking Balls.
Ranran Abdilla unleashed 24 points anchored on 21 kills to lead four other players in double-digit scoring. Edwin Tolentino had 18, Jeffrey Malabanan and Nino Jeruz scorer 13 each while Rudolfo Labrador dropped 11 for the Jet Spikers, who tied Mega Builders on top with 2-0 slate.
The Sunrisers, which gave away 28 points off errors, absorbed their second loss in as many games to slide at the cellar.
No Café Lupe player reached double-digit scoring with Jasper Adorador and John Millete closing their day with seven and six points, respectively.
Edward Camposano and Berlin Paglinawan finished with 18 each for the Wrecking Balls.
