Coming off a tough loss, BaliPure takes on the challenge of University of the Philippines.
University of the Philippines and BaliPure look to bounce back from their respective setbacks in a battle of young squads Saturday in the inaugural Premier Volleyball League Open Conference at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
Composed mostly of college volleybelles hungry to prove themselves, thrilling action is expected to explode when the two teams collide in their 4:00 p.m. match that will air via livestream.
The Water Defenders are at fourth spot with a 1-1 win-loss record behind league-leading Pocari Sweat and Creamline, which both parade 2-0 slates, and Philippine Air Force (1-0).
BaliPure is coming off a painful, 20-25, 30-28, 19-25, 29-31, defeat at the hands of the Cool Smashers last Wednesday in a match that saw the Water Defenders surrender to Creamline and allowing its top hitter Alyssa Valdez to drop a tournament-best 37 points.
Grethcel Soltones and National University standouts Risa Sato, Aiko Urdas, Jorelle Singh and setter Jasmine Nabor, who dished out 61 excellent sets the last time out, are tipped to carry BaliPure back on the winning track.
But the Water Defenders are sure to face tough resistance from the gritty Lady Maroons.
UP gave Pocari Sweat fits in its first outing before fizzling out in the end to bow down to the Lady Warriors, 25-21, 20-25, 18-25, 21-25, a week ago.
Despite losing its veteran core of Kathy Bersola, Nicole Tiamzon and Pia Gaiser after the UAAP season, the girls of coach Jerry Yee are showing their potential to give other club teams a run for their money.
Power-hitters Diana Carlos and Isa Molde will lead the young core of the Lady Maroons.
