Nagkaroon na kami ng kumpiyansa -- Tiamzon on Spikers' win
I think head start na rin sa amin, nagkaroon kami ng kumpyansa and parang ngayon lang namin ulit na-feel ang pagkapanalo since the last conference so hopefully sa next games sana manalo na rin kami -- Banko-Perlas' Nicole Tiamzon

With the monkey off its back, BanKo-Perlas hopes to use the momentum of its first win to turn its campaign around in the inaugural Premier Volleyball League Open Conference.

The Spikers snapped a two-game slide and barged in the win column Sunday at the expense of Adamson University, 25-18, 25-16, 21-25, 25-21, at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.

“Dapat (mag-build kami ng momentum) kasi sayang naman ang pinagod namin,” said Nicole Tiamzon, who scored 14 points off 10 attacks, three aces and a kill block.

Despite fielding a core composed of veteran players, BanKo-Perlas struggled early. The Spikers dropped a four-set match against Philippine Air Force in their tournament opener before bowing down to powerhouse Pocari Sweat also in four frames.

BanKo-Perlas played without Tiamzon and Kathy Bersola in their first outing. Bersola was also unavailable in their second match as well as injured Sasa Devanadera while Tiamzon struggled in her first game with only one point on a relief role.

Pitted against a young Lady Falcons squad, the Spikers, who finally fielded a complete lineup, easily controlled the first two sets but yielded the third and needed a huge late game rally to survive the fourth.

“Akala ko nga matatalo pa rin kami kasi may tendency na ganoon,” said Tiamzon. “Maganda naman ang performance namin sa training eh, tingin ko kulang lang talaga sa nadadala namin dito sa game. Kailangan lang talaga ng tiwala sa sarili and composure.”

With short single round robin format where the top four teams will advance in the best-of-three semifinals, the win came as a relief for BanKo-Perlas.

“I think head start na rin sa amin, nagkaroon kami ng kumpyansa and parang ngayon lang namin ulit na-feel ang pagkapanalo since the last conference so hopefully sa next games sana manalo na rin kami,” according to Tiamzon.

The Spikers will take on the winless Power Smashers on Saturday.
