HD Spikers rip Troopers, take share of lead

Peter Torres showed his vintage form to power Cignal to its third straight win for a share of the lead at the expense of Philippine Army, 25-20, 25-19, 25-17, in the men’s division of the inaugural Premier Volleyball League at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
The National University product pounded nine attacks and scored three kill blocks in his 12-point performance for the HD Spikers, who climbed on top of the standings with 3-0 win-loss record tied with Mega Builders.
Lorezo Capate added 10 markers, nine coming off kills, while national team member Mark Alfafara and Ysay Marasigan had nine points each for Cignal.
The Troopers slid to 1-2 slate tied with Sta. Elena.
Manuel Medina scored 10 points while Romnick Rico had nine for Army.
Meanwhile, Instituto Estetico Manila buried newcomer Gamboa Coffee, 25-22, 25-17, 25-13, to improve to 2-1 card.
Kurl Rosete finished with 13 points while Mark Enciso had nine for the Phoenix Volley Masters, who scored their second win after a straight sets loss to Sta. Elena in their tournament opener.
The Spikers went further down the cellar with 0-3 card tied with Café Lupe.
Alfredo Pangulong and AJ Pertierra combined for 16 points for Gamboa Coffee.
