Cignal tries to connect its fifth straight win and a semis spot in a showdown against another unbeaten team Mega Builders

Unbeaten teams Cignal and Mega Builders square off in a possible championship preview with a semifinals berth at stake on Wednesday in the men’s division of the inaugural Premier Volleyball League Open Conference at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.

The HD Spikers, who ruled the Reinforced Conference, and Volley Bolt shared the top spot with perfect 4-0 win-loss records.

The survivor of the 1:00 p.m. match that will air via livestream will not only preserve its pristine record but will also punch the first ticket in the best-of-three semifinals.

Cignal displayed its firepower the last time out with 11 players posting points in a 25-11, 25-15, 25-18, rout of Gamboa Coffee last Sunday.

Lorenzo Capate, Ysay Marasigan, Peter Torres and national team member Mark Alfafara, who had eight points against the Spikers in just one set of action, are tipped to deliver once again for the Oliver Almadro-mentored team.

Mega Builders is coming off a straight sets, 25-14, 25-20, 25-19, win over Instituto Estetico Manila last Saturday.

Backed by the core of National University men’s team, the Volley Bolt put their hopes on Francis Saura, fourth in scoring overall, Fauzi Ismail, Kim Malabunga and national team member Bryan Bagunas to hurdle the powerhouse HD Spikers.

Meanwhile, Philippine Air Force guns for back-to-back wins in a showdown at 10:00 a.m. against the Phoenix Volley Masters.

The Jet Spikers are at third spot with 3-1 slate while IEM shares the fourth to fifth spots at 2-2 slates with idle Sta. Elena.

Air Force drubbed Café Lupe, 24-26, 25-1825-15, 25-20, last Saturday while IEM saw its two-game winning streak snapped by Mega Builders
