Spikers, Lady Maroons fight to keep semis hopes alive
Kathy Bersola of BanKo-Perlas faces her former University of the Philippines teammates as the Spikers look to bounce back from a previous loss.

University of the Philippines and BanKo-Perlas try to keep their flickering semifinals hopes alive when they collide Wednesday in the inaugural Premier Volleyball League Open Conference at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.

Opening serve is at 6:00 p.m. and will air live on ABS-CBN S+A Channel 23, ABS-CBN S+A HD Channel 166 and via livestream.

The two squads are tied at fifth to eight spots with 1-3 win-loss records together with the Power Smashers and the Adamson University Lady Falcons.

After starting their campaign with three straight losses, the Lady Maroons scored their first win Sunday, edging their UAAP rival Lady Falcons, 23-25, 25-20, 25-13, 25-22.

Diana Carlos exploded for 20 points against Adamson while Isa Molde had 17. UP will again bank on the duo to deliver another victory for the Diliman-based squad against a team backed by former Lady Maroons Nicole Tiamzon and Kathy Bersola.

The Spikers, meanwhile, are raring to get back on the win column after absorbing a sorry 22-25, 25-16, 24-26, 25-23, 12-15, setback at the hands of the Power Smashers.

Ella De Jesus, Amy Ahomiro, Tiamzon and Bersola need to get their acts together to help BanKo-Perlas avoid getting on the brink of an early vacation.
