BRAND NEW YOU.
Without a doubt, Kathy Bersola and Nicole Tiamzon are doing just fine with their new team in the 2017 Premier Volleyball League Open Conference.
The middle blocker and the open hitter out of the University of the Philippines proved to be thorns on the side of their alma mater as they towed BanKo-Perlas through the Lady Maroons in four sets, 30-28, 21-25, 25-21, and 25-18 on Wednesday at the Filoil Flying V Centre.
Behind the former Lady Maroons, the Spikers got back to their winning ways and fanned the flames of their chances at the semifinals now with a 2-3 record.
The two teams equally divided the first two sets and were knotted at 19 in the third before back-to-back blocks by Bersola powered BanKo-Perlas into a 6-2 run to seize the set.
It was then Tiamzon’s time to shine in the fourth frame as she claimed three kills in the 8-3 burst that moved them from a two-point, 17-15, lead into a 25-18 seizing of the set.
In the end, Tiamzon had 15 points, all but one from spikes, while Bersola pounded in five blocks for a total of 14 markers of her own.
The two recently graduated from State U.
Of course, Ella De Jesus and Suzanne Roces were also there with 15 and 13 points, respectively.
With the win, the Spikers broke a four-team logjam for the fifth to eighth spots. They now stand one game behind idle BaliPure for the fourth and final semifinals berth.
On the other hand, UP is on the brink of being eliminated with its fourth loss in five games.
Tots Carlos led them in the losing effort with 24 points. Isa Molde also added 18 markers.
