Creamline hopes to move closer to sweeping the elimination round.
After snatching the first semifinals spot in a dominating win sans ace hitter Alyssa Valdez, Creamline now sets its eyes on moving closer to completing an elimination round sweep in the inaugural Premier Volleyball League Open Conference.
The Cool Smashers face a desperate University of the Philippines side at 6:30 p.m. Saturday at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan. The match will air via livestream and on a delayed telecast at 8:00 p.m. on S+A channel 23 and S+A HD channel 166.
In its first game without leading Most Valuable Player candidate Valdez, who is in Japan training with the national team for the AVC Asian Women’s Senior Volleyball Championship and Southeast Asian Games next month, Creamline turned to Pau Soriano, Rosemarie Vargas and Coleen Bravo to turn back the Power Smashers, 25-22, 25-21, 25-22, last Wednesday.
With a 5-0 win-loss record, the Cool Smashers occupied the first best-of-three semis spot and another win will put them on a good spot to clinch the top seed.
The Lady Maroons, on the other hand, are on the brink of elimination and another loss will send them packing early. UP is at the bottom of the standings with a 1-4 mark tied with the Power Smashers.
The State University volleybelles dropped a four-set, 28-30, 25-21, 21-25, 18-25, match against BanKo-Perlas last Wednesday.
