Mega Builders will try to keep its unbeaten record intact despite missing the services of top hitter Bryan Bagunas.
Semifinals-bound Mega Builders stakes its unbeaten record when the Volley Bolt collide with the Sta. Elena Wrecking Balls Saturday in the men’s division of the inaugural Premier Volleyball League Open Conference at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
The National University-backed Mega Builders is on roll after clobbering its first five assignments including a huge win over powerhouse team Cignal, 26-24, 26-24, 25-17, in a marquee match last Wednesday.
The win gave the Volley Bolt the first best-of-three semis seat and another victory over the Wrecking Balls at 10:00 a.m. will put the Mega Builders in a good position in the next round.
Meanwhile, Cignal tries to bounce back from its setback in a Reinforced Conference Finals rematch against Philippine Air Force at 1:00 p.m. The duel, which has the second semis berth at stake, will air via livestream.
Bryan Bagunas scored 17 points to bring down the HD Spikers. But the ace spiker will not be around to help Mega Builders as he joins the national men’s team in its Suwon, South Korea training camp for the 29th Southeast Asian Games in Kuala Lumpur. The Nationals is set to fly to South Korea Saturday at 2:35 p.m.
Fauzi Ismail, James Natividad, Kim Malabunga and skipper Francis Saura are tipped to help the Volley Bolt preserve their unblemished record against a team looking to avoid an early vacation.
Sta. Elena holds a 2-2 record at fourth spot an is gunning to score its first back-to-back wins after defeating Philippine Army, 25-15, 22-25, 25-21, 25-23, the last time out.
Cignal and Air Force are tied at second to third spots with 4-1 slate and will miss the services of some of their players, who are members of the national team.
The HD Spikers will play without Mark Alfafara, Herschel Ramos and Bonjomar Castel while Reinforced Conference Most Valuable Player Ranran Abdilla will be out for the Jet Spikers.
