Instituto Estetico Manila looks to keep its flickering semifinals hopes alive.
Instituto Estetico Manila aims to end a two-game slide and move closer to a semifinals spot Sunday when the Phoenix Volley Masters face a desperate Philippine Army side in the men’s division of the inaugural Premier Volleyball League at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
Game time is at 10:00 a.m.
IEM is at fourth to fifth spot tied with Sta. Elena with a 2-3 win-loss record.
Undefeated Mega Builders (6-0) and Cignal (5-1) occupied the first two best-of-three semifinals berths while third-running Philippine Air Force (4-2) is secured of at least a playoff for a Final Four spot.
The Volley Masters are on a two-game losing slump including a painful, 25-13, 25-23, 20-25, 22-25, 14-16, collapse against Philippine Air Force last Wednesday. IEM will play without top scorer Greg Dolor, who is with the national team in Suwon, South Korea for a two-week training camp for the 29th Southeast Asian Games in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia next month.
Army is also reeling from back-to-back defeats at 1-3 slate and another loss will put the Troopers, who are coming off a four-set setback to Sta. Elena, on the brink of elimination.
Meanwhile, winless teams Gamboa Coffee and Café Lupe collide at 1:00 p.m. in a match that will air via livestream.
Both the Spikers and Sunrisers dropped their first four assignments.
