Creamline shoots for a championship seat.
Creamline seeks to clinch a championship berth Sunday in Game 2 of the inaugural Premier Volleyball League Open Conference best-of-three semifinals series at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
Game time is at 6:30 p.m. and will air live on ABS-CBN S+A Channel 23, ABS-CBN S+A HD Channel 166 and via livestream.
The Cool Smashers escaped with a pivotal 25-19, 13-25, 28-26, 18-25, 15-7, win in the series opener Saturday, extending their winning streak to eight despite playing without ace spiker Alyssa Valdez.
“I hope we can bring the momentum of this win on Sunday,” said Creamline assistant coach Oliver Almadro. “I guess (magkakatalo) na lang ‘yan sa mentality ng mga players and how hungry they are.”
With Valdez out for the remainder of the conference, veterans Rosemarie Vargas, Pau Soriano and Ging Balse stepped up with Jia Morado orchestrating the team’s fluid offense.
The reigning Reinforced Conference Most Valuable Player was pulled out by the team’s management for the rest of the conference, citing health concerns for the national team member who will see action in the AVC Asian Senior Women’s Volleyball Championship and the 29th Kuala Lumpur Southeast Asian Games later this month.
But even with a series lead, Almadro is still wary of the Water Defenders’ firepower with Grethcel Soltones, Risa Sato and Jerrili Malabanan leading the Roger Gorayeb-mentored squad.
“’Yung momentum is on our side, we have to grab it. ‘Di mo pwedeng alisin ang BaliPure kasi maganda rin ang nilalaro nila,” he said.
Game 3, if needed, is on Wednesday.
The championship round is also a best-of-three series.
