BaliPure will take on an Alyssa Valdez-less Creamline in their best-of-three semifinals series.
BaliPure takes on a Creamline side sans its ace spiker Alyssa Valdez Saturday in the first of their back-to-back meetings in the inaugural Premier Volleyball League Open Conference best-of-three semifinals series at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
Action begins at 4:00 p.m. and will air live on ABS-CBN S+A Channel 23, ABS-CBN S+A HD Channel 166 and via livestream.
Game 2 of the semis is on Sunday. If needed, Game 3 is on Wednesday.
The Water Defenders are coming off a straight sets, 25-21, 25-16, 25-23 win over Pocari Sweat to clinch the last semis berth.
Gorayeb, who will bank on Grethcel Soltones, Risa Sato, Jerrili Malabanan, Aiko Urdas and setter Jasmine Nabor, stressed the importance of drawing first blood.
“Sinuman manalo sa Sabado, may chance na (tapusin ang series) sa Sunday,” he said. “Equal footing, walang may advantage. Patapangan ng loob ‘yan, wala nang adjustment kasi kinabukasan wala nang pahinga lalaro ka uli.”
But the Cool Smashers are riding on the crest of sweeping the elimination round.
Creamline still managed to win all of its last three games despite missing the services of Valdez, who joined the national team in a 17-day training camp in Japan.
Unfortunately, Valdez, who averaged 27 points per game, will sit out the remainder of the Cool Smashers' campaign due to health concerns.
Creamline, which defeated BaliPure in four sets in the elims, will bank on ace playmaker Jia Morado, Rosemarie Vargas, Pau Soriano and Francesca Racraquin.
