The Mega Builders Volley Bolt advanced in the Finals to challenge Cignal.
Top title contenders Mega Builders and Cignal set up a collision course for the inaugural Premier Volleyball League Open Conference men's division crown.
The HD Spikers clinched the first Finals berth with a dominating 25-21, 25-18, 25-20 victory against Sta. Elena before the Volley Bolt followed suit with a 25-23, 25-22, 26-24 win over Philippine Air Force as they completed a sweep of their respective best-of-three semifinals series at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
The best-of-three championship series starts Wednesday.
Lorenzo Capate scored 11 points while Peter Torres and skipper Ysay Marasigan finished with 10 markers apiece for Cignal, which is on the right track for a follow to its Reinforced Conference conquest.
The HD Spikers defeated the Wrecking Balls in four sets Saturday in their series opener.
Meanwhile, Bryan Bagunas only had eight points compared to his 20-point explosion in the Volley Bolt’s five-set win over the Jet Spikers Saturday but Fauzi Ismail and Kim Malabunga picked up the scoring slack with 15 and 10 markers, respectively.
Berlin Paglinawan led Sta. Elena with 13 points while national team member Ranran Abdilla got 21 for Air Force.
The Jet Spikers and Wrecking Balls will get a chance to grab a consolation podium finish in the best-of-three battle for third. In case the Finals series ends after two games and the bronze medal joust extends to a Game 3, the team with the highest quotient will pocket the third place trophy.
