Mega Builders and Cignal collide in Game 1 of the best-of-three championship series

Favorites Mega Builders and Cignal begin their quest for the inaugural Premier Volleyball League Open Conference men's division crown Wednesday at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.

Game 1 of the best-of-three Finals series begins at 1:00 p.m. and will air via livestream.

The Volley Bolt hopes to bring the psychological advantage against an equally dangerous HD Spikers to draw first blood.

Mega Builders swept Cignal, 26-24, 26-24, 25-17, last July 19 during the Volley Bolt’s five-game winning streak.

Behind national team member Bryan Bagunas and the core of National University led by Fauzi Ismail, Francsi Saura, Kim Malabunga, Madzlan Gampong and playmaker Kim Dayandante, Mega Builders completed a semifinals series sweep of Philippine Air Force.

The Volley Bolt dominated the Jet Spikers, 25-23, 25-22, 26-24, last Sunday in Game 2 of the race-to-two series.

The Reinforced Conference champion Cignal is expected to go all-out to claim a second straight title.

Bannered by Lorenzo Capate, Ysay Marasigan, Peter Torres, national team members Mark Alfafara, Bonjomar Castel and Herschel Ramos with top playmaker Vince Mangulabnan, the HD Spikers hurdled Sta. Elena in their semis showdown.

Cignal destroyed the Wrecking Balls, 25-21, 25-18, 25-20, Sunday to complete a series sweep and book its second straight Finals appearance.

Meanwhile, the Jet Spikers and Wrecking Balls will get a chance to grab a consolation podium finish in the best-of-three battle for third starting 10:00 a.m.

In case the Finals series ends after two games and the bronze medal joust extends to a Game 3, the team with the highest quotient will pocket the third place trophy.
