"Nung Game 2 kasi nag-relax kami nun eh, parang ayaw namin makuha yung championship..." --- PVL Open Conference MVP Lorenzo Capate.
After a five-set collapse in Game 2 of the Finals, Premier Volleyball League Open Conference MVP Lorenzo Capate didn't mince words and admitted that Cignal relaxed.
It cost them dearly obviously, prompting a team talk things through the very next day.
"Nung Game 2 kasi nag-relax kami nun eh, parang ayaw namin makuha yung championship," Capate said on Wednesday after the HD Spikers finally beat the MegaBuilders in four sets to take the crown.
"Nung Sunday, nagusap-usap kami kung ano yung gagawin namin today. Yun yung focus namin," he added.
In the sudden death Game 3, Cignal came out laser focused, opening a commanding two sets to none lead before staging a furious fourth-set rally to win back-to-back titles.
"Siguro yung maturity talaga namin yung nagdala sa game kanina. Tsaka naging composed talaga kami," Capate said.
On top of taking the league MVP award, the high-scoring Capate also bagged the Finals MVP plum, completing a pretty successful conference.
He finished with 16 points in Game 3 behind Ysay Marasigan's 17.
"Actually, kung wala yung mga teammates ko, sila din kasi yung nagbo-boost ng morale sakin kaya nakuha ko itong MVP na ito," Capate said.
"At good thing, binigay sakin ni Lord, sobrang blessed ko na siguro lalo na champion pa, back-to-back," he added.
