Itís the hardest part to get everyone on the same mindsets -- Ateneo team captain Bea De Leon

Ateneo de Manila University team captain Bea De Leon’s leadership will be tested on Saturday when the Lady Eagles take on Jose Rizal University in Group A of the inaugural Premier Volleyball League Collegiate Conference elimination round at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.

Game time is at 6:30 p.m. and will air live on ABS-CBN S+A Channel 23, ABS-CBN S+A HD Channel 166 and via livestream.

Taking the role after the departure of top setter Jia Morado and Michelle Morente, De Leon will try to rally the rebuilding Ateneo squad in the tournament that will serve as a part of the Katipunan-based squad’s build up for the UAAP.

“It’s the hardest part to get everyone on the same mindsets,” said the fourth year De Leon. “As long as we find a way to all have a common mindset and a common goal, I think we’ll gonna be fine.”

Helping De Leon are key holdovers Maddie Madayag, Jho Maraguinot, Ana Gopico, Kim Gequillana, Kat Tolentino and Jules Samonte. Dani Ravena, sister of Atene cagers Kiefer and Thirdy, will also debut as the Lady Eagles’ setter.

Meanwhile, Shola Alvarez’s leadership will also be put to the test.

Only Alvarez has an experience playing for a club, donning the Pocari Sweat jersey.

“Hind naman maiiwasan ang pressure sa akin. Ako lang kasi ang may experience na maglaro sa club at saka maglaro na may TV,” she said. “Kasi ang mga coaches ko at mga teammates ko malaki ang inaasahan sa akin.”

The top two teams in each bracket after the round-robin group stage will advance in the best-of-three semifinals. The championship round is also a best-of-three affair.
