College of St. Benilde squares off with reigning NCAA champion and archrival Arellano University to open its PVL Collegiate Conference campaign.
Top NCAA teams Arellano University and College of St. Benilde meet in an early clash of favorites in Group B of the inaugural Premier Volleyball League Collegiate Conference elimination round Saturday at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
Opening serve is at 4:00 p.m. and will air live on ABS-CBN S+A Channel 23, ABS-CBN S+A HD Channel 166 and via livestream.
Expect fireworks when the reigning NCAA champions Lady Chiefs collide with the former title-holder Lady Blazers.
“Magandang laban kaagad ito,” said Arellano coach Obet Javier on the NCAA stepladder semifinals rematch against CSB, which they dethroned on their way to claiming the crown at the expense of then thrice-to-beat San Sebastian College.
Javier will pin his hopes on his veteran crew led by Jovielyn Prado, Regine Arocha, Anne Esguerra and Andrea Marzan, who all played under the Power Smashers banner during the Reinforced and Open Conferences.
But it will be a tough contest with CSB parading an almost intact lineup led by graduating middle blocker Ranya Musa, Rachel Austero and Melanie Torres and with the addition of recruits former National University players Klarissa Abriam, open hitter Marites Pablo, sister of Pocari Sweat franchise player Myla Pablo, and ex-Ateneo de Manila prospect and head-turner libero Felicia Cui.
The top two teams in each bracket after the round-robin group stage will advance in the best-of-three semifinals. The championship round is also a best-of-three affair.
