Technological Institute of the Philippines hopes to represent its mother league well in the PVL Collegiate Conference.

Technological Institute of the Philippines is not just fighting for school pride.

The NCRAA-UCLAA runner-up Lady Engineers are also representing their mother league as they go up against the finest squads from the UAAP and NCAA.

TIP is the lone non-UAAP and NCAA team in the 12-squad field of the inaugural Premier Volleyball League Collegiate Conference, which will open shop on Saturday at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.

“May pressure po sa amin siyempre kasi po kami lang ang team na hindi NCAA at UAAP dito. Tapos po di lang ang school ang dala namin kundi pati ‘yung liga naming sa college,” said team captain Alexandra Rosales.

Although the squad is relatively, unknown compared to its NCAA and UAAP counterparts, the Lady Engineers are no strangers to high-level competitions.

This will mark as the school’s third participation in a Sports Vision-organized league after two stints in the same conference of the defunct V-League back in 2015 and 2016.

TIP will be bannered by veterans Rosales, Alyssa Layug, Andrea Agustin, Eunice Mabayao, and Sheena Espinosa while the rest of the Lady Engineers' 14-woman lineup are senior high players and former Team B members elevated to fill up its main squad.

“Ang goal namin ay mas makilala ng tao ang school namin sa volleyball at para ma-expose din ang team namin,” Rosales added.

With a young core, the Lady Engineers are just looking to gain experience and exposure while managing their expectations.

“We want to win pero we need more experience, kaya siguro mas uunahin muna namin ang pagkuha ng experience and i-enjoy lang ang mga games,” said Layug. “Mga bata pa kasi ang mga kasama ko, mga halos senior high, so experience muna kami.”

“Ayokong mag-expect ng masyadong mataas, kung ano lang ang kaya ko, ng teammates ko, ng coaches namin dun lang,” added Layug, who played for University of the Philippines for a year before transferring to TIP.

The Lady Engineers are bracketed in Group B with UAAP teams University of the Philippines and Adamson University and NCAA champion Arellano University, and NCAA contenders College of St. Benilde and San Beda College.

“Ipapakita lang nami kung ano ang meron kami, kung ano ang itinuro sa amin at kung ano ang tini-training namin kasi nakakalaban din naman namin ang iba dun eh, like ‘yung UP, San Beda, Arellano so alam namin ang galaw nila,” said Layug.

TIP will be debut against San Beda College on Sunday.
