Reigning NCAA champion College of St. Benilde tests its mettle against sister squad De La Salle University Saturday as the inaugural Premier Volleyball League Collegiate Conference men’s division opens at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
Game time is at 10:00 a.m. and will be followed by the University of the Philippines and University of Sto. Tomas showdown at 1:00 p.m., which will air via livestream.
The Blazers, who scored a breakthrough NCAA title in Season 92, march into battle hoping to show the same intensity and fire despite the departure of their ace player Johnvic De Guzman, who exhausted all of his playing years after leading CSB to the throne.
Isaah Arda, Francis Basilan and libero Russel Garcia will carry the fight for the Taft-based squad. CSB, which also lost its starting setter Mark Deximo and another scorer Ron Jordan, will also field former University of the East player Ruvince Abrot.
The Green Spikers, meanwhile, test their new system under coach Normal Miguel, who replaced Nes Pamilar.
DLSU pins its hopes on top hitter Raymark Woo, Cris Dumago, Arjay Onia, Geraint Bacon and setter Reuel Asia.
UST will bank on veterans Jayvee Sumagaysay, Arnold Bautista, Tyrone Carodan and Manuel Medina against the UP crew of Wendel Miguel, John Millete and Gian San Pascual.
