I take it as a motivation na din na, yes they're achievers but I know in myself na I can also do those things -- Dani Ravena
Carrying the name of a family of successful athletes, Dani Ravena is looking to make a name for herself.
The latest of the Ravena family to enter the world of sports, Dani wants to step out of the shadows of her accomplished parents, dad former PBA player Bong and ex-volleyball player and now sportscaster mom Mozzy Ravena and her cager siblings Kiefer and Thirdy.
Dani joined the Ateneo de Manila University Lady Eagles as a newbie setter. Her brothers also donned the blue and white jersey playing for the school’s basketball team.
Dani admitted that there’s a huge pressure to follow the success of her parents and brothers but she’s taking it as a challenge.
“I take it as a motivation na din na, yes they're achievers but I know in myself na I can also do those things,” said Dani after the Lady Eagles’ 25-17, 25-15, 25-15, win over Jose Rizal University on Saturday in the inaugural Premier Volleyball League Collegiate Conference at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
“Na I can be myself and I can have a name also and not just be the sister of Kiefer and Thirdy and the anak of Bong and Mozzy,” added the Miriam College recruit. “I mean, I'm proud to be one (Ravena) but I also want to be known to be a good volleyball player.”
Unfortunately, Dani didn’t get a chance to play in Ateneo’s PVL debut with starting setter Deanna Wong showing a superb game.
Dani hopes that in their next games, head coach Tai Bundit will give her some playing time to prove that she can also excel in her sport.
“It's overwhelming talaga (na makalaro for Ateneo) but I know it's not enough and I have to improve pa on my skills,” she said.
