Cesca Racraquin dropped 19 points to lead San Beda College to victory.
San Beda College took a share of lead in Group B after a 25-13, 25-18, 25-27, 25-13, win over Technological Institute of the Philippines Sunday in the inaugural Premier Volleyball League Collegiate Conference at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
Fresh from her stint with Creamline in the Reinforced and Open conferences, Cesca Racraquin lived up to expectations as the sophomore hitter scored 19 points.
The NCAA Season 92 rookie of the year hammered 17 attacks in the Mendiola-based squad’s 60-kill outing while adding seven excellent receptions for an all-around performance for the ladies in red.
The Lady Red Spikers joined co-NCAA team Arellano University in the opening day winners’ list. San Beda will take on the Lady Chiefs on Wednesday.
Racraquin, who won two bronze medals with the Cool Smashers, was backed Satrianni Espiritu, Jiezela Viray and Nieza Viray, who all scored in double figures for the NCAA Season 92 fourth placers.
Espiritu finished with 18 points coming off 15v attacks and three kill blocks, Jiezela Viray had 15 while her twin sister Nieza added 10 for the Lady Red Spikers.
Still, head coach Nemesio Gavino was far from satisfied with his team’s performance especially after giving away 30 points off their errors and letting the Lady Engineers steal the third set.
“Kasi ‘yan ‘yung sakit namin pagka nakuha ang game, nakita na kaya ang kalaban, nagre-relax na,” he said. “So 'yun ang kailangan i-improve ng team.”
After cruising in the first two sets, the Lady Red Spikers saw themselves trailing, 19-22. San Beda fought back to tie the frame at 25 but Racraquin sent her service short in the next play before TIP sealed the set with an ace.
The Lady Red Spikers pulled away early to control the fourth frame.
Alyssa Layug had 13 points while Ashley Jinon had 10 for TIP.
