Far Eastern University welcomed new coach George Pascua with a dominating 25-17, 25-21, 25-14, win over the rebuilding San Sebastian College in Group A of the inaugural Premier Volleyball League at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
The Lady Tamaraws joined Ateneo de Manila University on top of the group.
“So far so good. Sabi ko nga sa kanila simulan natin ng maganda para matapos din natin ng maganda,” said Pascua, who replaced Shaq Delos Santos three months ago.
Skipper Bernadeth Pons scored 13 points coming off eight spikes, three kill blocks and a couple of aces including the match-clinching service winner.
“Naglaro kami as a team and ginawa lang namin kung ano ang sinabi ni coach and 'yung ini-ensayo namin,” said Pons, who also contributed on defense with 10 digs.
The Lady Tams pummeled the Lady Stags with 40 attack points and scored 10 service aces overall.
Toni Rose Basas added 11 markers while Celine Domingo and Jeanette Villareal combined for 17 points for FEU.
SSC-R was obviously in disarray after the departure of ace hitter and prolific scorer Grethcel Soltones and Kath Villegas as the Roger Gorayeb-mentored squad struggled on offense.
The three-time NCAA Most Valuable Player Soltones and Villegas are now part of Gorayeb's coaching staff.
The Lady Stags only scored 24 attacks and gave away 21 points off their errors.
Nikka Dalisay finished with 10 points while Daurene Santos and Joyce Sta. Rita combined for only 12 for SSC-R.
