Lahat sa team nagtulung-tulong para manalo kami, hindi naman kami mananalo kung ako lang eh -- Eli Soyud
Eli Soyud had a breakout game Monday night.
The Adamson University middle had monster numbers in the Lady Falcons’ 17-25, 25-21, 19-25, 25-19, 15-9, win over University of the Philippines in Group B of the inaugural Premier Volleyball League at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
Soyud dropped 27 points but was quick to point the credit to her teammates.
“Lahat sa team nagtulung-tulong para manalo kami, hindi naman kami mananalo kung ako lang eh,” said the transferee from De La Salle University.
Soyud had 23 kills and four kill blocks for the Lady Falcons, who joined other early Group B winners Arellano University and San Beda College and exacted revenge on the same squad that defeated them in the Open Conference two months ago.
“Hindi ko inexpect (na 27 points) gusto ko lang manalo kasi bawi na rin ba from last conference at siyempre para mas tumaas ang morale ng team,” she said.
Soyud scored three of the Lady Falcons’ closing 7-0 rally from an 8-9 deficit in the fifth set. She nailed back-to-back off speed attacks to push Adamson at match point, 14-9.
“Wala for me kinalma ko lang ang sarili ko para maka-contribute ako sa team (noong fifth set),” Soyud said. “Na-feel ko ang eagerness na kailangan nang tapusin, kailangan ko mag-step up para manalo kami pero team effort ‘yun.”
