Favorites Ateneo de Manila and National University aim to win their second straight victories and a share of the early lead against separate foes Wednesday in the inaugural Premier Volleyball League Collegiate Conference men’s division at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
The Blue Eagles, seeking to annex their third collegiate conference title since dominating the now defunct V-League’s last two editions, marches into battle at 8:00 a.m. against San Beda College.
Meanwhile, the Bulldogs clash with Far Eastern University at 10:00 a.m.
University of Sto. Tomas is currently at solo lead with 2-0 win-loss record.
Three-time UAAP champion Ateneo defeated the Tamaraws, 20-25, 25-21, 25-21, 25-20, last Sunday behind the 27 points of Marck Espejo and Ishmael Rivera’s 11 markers.
The Blue Eagles with its firepower are heavily favored against the Red Spikers but head coach Oliver Almadro is not taking the Mendiola-based squad lightly.
“They are a good team naman and contenders sila sa NCAA so hindi pwedeng hindi paghandaan,” said Almadro.
The Bulldogs, on the other hand, swept the Red Spikers 25-15, 25-16, 25-18, last Sunday despite playing sans national team member Bryan Bagunas.
Bagunas skipped the match because of a lingering back spasm.
Fauzi Ismail and James Natividad shouldered the scoring load with 17 and 16 points, respectively, for NU.
