Blue Eagles take solo lead, remain unbeaten

Ateneo de Manila University kept its clean slate intact and solidified its hold of the lead with a 25-21, 25-17, 25-18, win over University of Sto. Tomas on Saturday in the men’s division of the inaugural Premier Volleyball League Collegiate Conference at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
The Katipunan-based squad improved its unblemished slate to 3-0 for the solo lead while handing the Tigers their first loss in three outings.
The usual suspects delivered the numbers for the Blue Eagles with Marck Espejo punching 17 points including 13 coming off attacks. Espejo also added eight excellent digs for an all-around performance.
Ishmael Rivera chipped in with 10 points while Karl Baysa had nine markers for Ateneo.
Joshua Umandal finished with 13 points as the only UST player in double figures.
Meanwhile, Far Eastern University captured its second straight win as the Tamaraws prevailed over De La Salle University, 25-23, 25-19, 23-25, 25-18, in the other match.
John Paul Bugaoan dropped 17 points on a 14-kill outing while Redjohn Paler had 14 for the Tams, who tied UST with 2-1 slate. Richard Solis had 13 markers while Jude Garcia finished with 11 for the Morayta-based squad.
The Green Spikers suffered their second straight setback for a 1-2 mark.
Arjay Onia’s 19 points came into naught so as Cris Dumago’s 13 and the combined 22 markers of Raymark Woo and John Delos Reyes for DLSU.
