Adamson University look to score back-to-back wins and hand Arellano University its first defeat.
Undefeated Arellano University faces its biggest challenge yet in the inaugural Premier Volleyball League Collegiate Conference Group B when the Lady Chiefs take on an inspired Adamson side Saturday at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
The reigning NCAA champions put their unblemished slate and solo hold of the lead at stake against one of the two UAAP teams in the bracket at 4:00 p.m. The match will air via livestream.
Arellano University cruised past its first two NCAA opponents as Legarda-based squad swept College of St. Benilde and San Beda College.
Regine Arocha, Jovielyn Prado and Anne Esguerra did most of the damage by scoring in double figures in the Lady Chiefs, 25-22, 25-21, 25-18, win over the Lady Red Spikers last Wednesday.
Arellano head coach Obet Javier sees the match against the Lady Falcons, who scored an upset over University of the Philippines, 17-25, 25-21, 19-25, 25-19, 15-9, to open their campaign last Monday, as a chance for his team to gain valuable experience as they build up for their NCAA title defense.
“Maganda ang laban sa Sabado kasi siyempre dagdag sa amin ‘yun na experience na makalaban ang team from UAAP,” he said. “Ang Adamson matagal ng natulog pero sa ngayon ang ganda ng team nila ngayon.”
Adamson coach Air Padda is pinning her hopes on Eli Soyud, who dropped 27 points in her conference debut, Jema Galanza and returning Joy Dacoron.
“It’s gonna be a huge challenge. I think they are a good team, they are the NCAA champion team. They have fast middles. It’s gonna ba another good match,” said Padda.
