Green Spikers tame Bulldogs to end two-game skid

De La Salle University ended its woes while adding more to National University on Monday in the men’s division of the inaugural Premier Volleyball League Collegiate Conference at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
The Green Spikers arrested a two-game slide with a stunning, 31-29, 25-23, 20-25, 19-25, 15-6, win over the Bulldogs to even their win-loss record to 2-2.
Arjay Onia poured 21 points with 18 coming off kills to lead the Taft-based squad while Raymark Woo and Cris Dumago added 15 markers each. Joshua Jose scored 13 points for DLSU, which handed NU its second straight defeat in three outings.
Playmaker Wayne Marco dished out 57 excellent sets in the Green Spikers’ 58 spike points and added nine markers.
NU got 16 points from Fauzi Ismail, who played in just three sets while Bryan Bagunas, who saw limited minutes in the Bulldog’s 5-set loss to Far Eastern University, played in all frames and finished with 14 markers.
James Natividad had 13 points while Francis Saura and Kim Malabunga combined for 21 markers for the Bulldogs, who played without its main setter Kim Dayandante.
Meanwhile, San Beda College barged in the win column after scoring a huge upset against UAAP team University of the Philippines, 25-22, 25-22, 25-19, in the curtain-raiser.
The Red Spikers tied their victim and NU at 1-2 slate.
Jomaru Amaganb scored 14 points while Mark Enciso and Limuel Patino had 13 and 12 markers, respectively, for the Mendiola-based squad, which snapped a two-game skid.
Wendel Miguel got 19 points while Nicolo Consuelo finished with 10 for the Maroons.
