Aiko Urdas of National University dropped 17 points as the Lady Bulldogs climbed on top of Group A for a share of the lead.
National University took a slice of the lead in Group A after taking down San Sebastian College, 25-21, 21-25, 25-11, 25-18, Monday, in the inaugural Premier Volleyball League Collegiate Conference at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
The Lady Bulldogs bit their second straight win in as many outings to tie Far Eastern University on top of the heap.
Aiko Urdas finished with 17 points to lead NU, which lost senior high player Princess Robles in the third set after twisting her left ankle. Team captain Jaja Santiago had 11 markers while Audrey Paran and Robles combined for 15 points for the Lady Bullodgs, who came out with the win despite giving away 37 points off errors.
NU head coach Babes Castillo experimented on his rotation in the second set but backfired as the rebuilding Lady Stags, who played without coach Roger Gorayeb for personal reasons, equalized before the Lady Bulldogs dominated the next two sets to seal the match. Castillo replaced Gorayeb after the 79th UAAP Season last May.
“I always appreciate a win. It’s a win, maganda ang result pero the way we did it medyo hindi pa kami happy doon,” he said.
“Hindi pa sync. Hindi pa ganoon naiitindihan ang sistema,” added Castillo, whose wards will face FEU on Saturday.
Joyce Sta. Rita posted 12 points while Nikka Dalisay had nine markers for SSC-R, which dropped to 1-2 slate.
