Espejo shines as ADMU goes 4-0, FEU wins third straight

Far Eastern University dominated University of Sto. Tomas to capture its third straight win in four outings.
Marck Espejo had another stellar performance as unbeaten Ateneo de Manila University stretched its winning streak to four in a quick work of listless College of St. Benilde, 25-13, 25-22, 25-22, Wednesday in the men’s division of the inaugural Premier Volleyball League Collegiate Conference at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
The four-time UAAP Most Valuable Player Espejo blasted away with 17 points highlighted with 15 attacks for the Blue Eagles, who remained on top of the standings and moved closer to clinching a best-of-three semifinals spot.
Meanwhile, Far Eastern University stretched its winning romp to three after sweeping University of Sto. Tomas, 25-22, 25-22, 26-24, in the second game.
FEU improved to 3-1 slate at second spot behind John Paul Bugaoan’s 16 points and Redjohn Paler’ 11 markers.
Ishmael Rivera scored nine markers while UAAP season 79 rookie of the year Chumason Njigha made his presence felt with seven markers for Ateneo, which came away with 38 points off kills initiated by setter Ish Polvorosa’s 30 excellent sets.
The Katipunan-based squad added more woes to the struggling NCAA champions. The Blazers remained winless after three outings and pushed on the brink of an early vacation.
Isaah Arda scored 11 points while Francis Basilan got seven for CSB, which gave away 27 points off errors.
The Tigers suffered their second straight defeat and slid back to 2-2 card tied with De La Salle University at third to fourth spots.
Joshua Umandal had 15 points while Arnold Bautista got 11 for UST.
