Lyceum of the Philippines University tasted its first win as the Lady Pirates shot down the Jose Rizal University Lady Bombers, 25-20, 24-26, 25-13, 25-22, Wednesday in Group A of the inaugural Premier Volleyball League Collegiate Conference at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
Christine Miralles led the way with 18 points anchored on 10 kills, five kill blocks and three aces while Cherilyn Sindayen and Rocelyn Hongia had 15 markers each for the Lady Pirates, who tied their next opponent Ateneo de Manila University with 1-1 win-loss slates.
La Rainne Fabay added 10 points for the Intramuros-based squad, which rained down 53 points off spikes and played solidly at the net with 10 kill blocks led by Miralles.
“Tinitingnan ko kanina ang laro. Alam kong may advantage kami sa kanila kasi nakakalaban na rin naman namin sila sa NCAA,” said LPU coach Emil Lontoc.
The mentor was only disappointed with his team giving away 35 points off errors.
“Medyo kulang lang talaga sa maturity ang team,” Lontoc added.
Skipper Shola Alvarez had 19 points, 17 off attacks while Dolly Versoza got 11 for the Lady Bombers, who absorbed their third straight loss in as many outings.
