Lady Chiefs inch closer to a semis seat

Arellano University rediscovered its winning ways to boost its semifinals bid.
Arellano University bounced back mightily from a painful setback in its previous match with 25-16, 25-15, 25-18, drubbing of Technological Institute of the Philippines Monday sans head coach Obet Javier in Group B of the inaugural Premier Volleyball League Collegiate Conference at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
Regine Arocha erased the bitter memory of her two-point outing in the Lady Chiefs straight sets loss to Adamson University last week by dropping 17 points off 12 attacks, four aces and a kill block.
Arocha added nine digs as the reigning NCAA champion Arellano U improved to 3-1 win-loss record and moved a win closer to clinching a spot in the best-of-three semifinals.
Andrea Marzan scored 13 markers while skipper Jovielyn Prado chipped in 11 points for the Lady Chiefs.n
“Sinabi ko sa mga players na must-win tayo ngayon. Wala man si coach Obet pero kailangan ang intensity natin hindi pwedeng bumaba,” said Lady Chiefs assistant coach Michael Santos, who took the reins after Javier was hospitalized early Monday because of gallstones.
Javier was rushed to UERM hospital after complaining of stomach pain. He is scheduled to undergo an operation according to Santos.
Arellano U rained down 44 attacks, nailed nine aces and had seven kill blocks to offset its 25 errors.
Alyssa Layug finished with nine points while Jade Gentapa scored four for the also-ran Lady Engineers, who dropped to their fourth straight defeat in as many outings.
