Sa ngayon more training and naghihintay kami kung sino ang papalit kay coach (Jerry Yee) -- Diana Carlos
The University of the Philippines has yet to name a new coach almost a month after head coach Jerry Yee decided to quit his post after four seasons.
The Lady Maroons are still sticking with the system left behind by Yee, who handled the Diliman-based squad.
“Sa ngayon kasi wala pang sinasabi (na papalit),” said third year player Diana Carlos on Monday after UP’s 25-19, 25-13, 25-19, win against listless College of St. Benilde on Monday in Group B of the inaugural Premier Volleyball League Collegiate Conference at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
“Sa ngayon more training and naghihintay kami kung sino ang papalit kay coach,” she added.
The Lady Maroons scored their second straight win in three outings to keep their semifinals hopes alive.
Carlos said that their five-set loss to the unbeaten Adamson University in their tournament debut was an eye-opener for the team.
“Talo kami sa Adamson hindi naman sa inaano ko (ang Adamson) pero yung skills kasi namin. Tinalo kami ng sarili naming,” she recalled. “Sa fifth set six straight points di kami gumalaw. Siyempre nagising kami kaya kailangan naming bumawi talaga.”
UP remains in the thick of the battle for the two best-of-three semifinals slots. The Lady Maroons’s last two assignments are against San Beda College (2-1) on Saturday and Arellano University (3-1) on Sep. 30.
“Siyempre sobrang important kasi alam natin ang San Beda at Arellano mga nagta-top 4 sa NCAA ‘yan eh,” said Carlos. “Wala namang pinagkaiba ang NCAA sa UAAP eh. Kailangan lang naming mag-focus at mindset talaga.”
