Marck Espejo led Ateneo de Manila University to an emphatic win over De La Salle University.
Marck Espejo’s firepower and Ateneo de Manila University’s intensity proved too much for De La Salle University as the unbeaten Blue Eagles stretched their winning streak in the men’s division of the inaugural Premier Volleyball League Collegiate Conference to six straight.
The semifinals-bound Blue Eagles blew past the Green Spikers, 25-15, 25-20, 25-22, Saturday at the FilOil Flying V Centre in San Juan.
Most Valuable Player award top contender Espejo led the way for the three-time UAAP champion Ateneo with 16 points he collected from 13 attacks, a pair of kill blocks and an ace.
Gian Caro Glorioso added 11 markers while Karl Baysa added nine for the Blue Eagles, who pulled DLSU down to 3-3 slate in a 69-minute match.
Raymark Woo and Arjay Onia scored eight points each for the Green Spikers, who dropped to fourth spot.
Meanwhile, National University won its second straight match at the expense of University of the Philippines, 25-13, 24-26, 25-15, 25-17.
The Bulldogs improved their record to 3-2 mark while sending the Fighting Maroons on the brink of elimination with 1-4 slate.
Bagunas exploded with 27 points coming of 20 attacks, four aces and three kill blocks to power NU. Madzlan Gampong and James Natividad had 15 and 11 points, respectively.
Wendel Miguel posted 17 points while John Millete got 11 in a lost cause for UP.
